Why original EXIF is usually lost
The screenshot tool captures rendered pixels into a new image. It does not normally copy the source photograph’s camera metadata. It may add dimensions, color information or software-related text chunks of its own.
What can still be private
A screenshot can visibly include names, notifications, coordinates, browser tabs or account details. Removing metadata does not redact the pixels.

Why the answer must be file-specific
A screenshot is a new image made from rendered screen pixels, so it normally does not inherit the photographed image’s camera EXIF. The screenshot program can still add text, software, color or date information of its own.
Operating systems and capture apps change over time. A result from Windows Snipping Tool cannot safely be generalized to a browser extension, game capture, phone screenshot, annotated export or cloud editing workflow.

- Repeat the check after annotation or redaction
What the three-file sample actually supports
The three PNG files had different dimensions and came from real screen captures. No supported EXIF GPS or XMP location field was detected. That is useful evidence about those files and the tested path, not a claim that screenshots never contain location.
The sample size is deliberately displayed beside the table. Small transparent samples are more trustworthy than a universal conclusion hidden behind vague wording, because the reader can judge how far the result should travel.
Pixels are usually the larger screenshot risk
Notifications, account names, open tabs, QR codes, messages, document titles and profile photos can reveal far more than metadata. A clean metadata result cannot see or understand all of those visible details.
Review the entire frame, crop unrelated areas and redact a copy. Zoom in after export to make sure the redaction is baked into the pixels rather than placed as a removable annotation layer.
What this does not prove
A metadata result describes the fields and structures that the supported parser could read. It does not, by itself, prove authenticity, intent, authorship or the truth of the visible scene.
